| UPDATES to ACES VERSION 6 | |||||||
| This page allows clients with maintenance contracts to download the latest
version of the standard ACES
program as well as the associated ACES-BEAM Continuous Beam Module and the Incrementally Launched
Beam module (ILB). In order for these updates to run you must have a valid licence for the ACES program and the ACES-BEAM and ILB modules. If you are updating to the latest version of ACES and its two associated modules, ILB and ACES-BEAM, click Option 1. If updating only ACES-BEAM select Option 2. Option 5 is only to be used for installing ACES-BEAM library files in a networked environment. |

| 1. Update the ACES Program | |||||||
The latest version of the ACES Bridge Analysis module is stored as a self-extracting zipped executable file. Please note that this download will update the standard ACES program as well as the associated ILB and ACES-BEAM modules. It only updates those modules and associated files that may have been revised in the current upgrade - it does not install the complete ACES system. You must have a licenced copy of ACES6 (or ILB and ACES-BEAM) already installed on your PC in order for the download to run. Instructions for Downloading the Update First download the update file to a suitable temporary folder on your PC, then unzip it into the appropriate ACES directory by double clicking the file name. Follow any instructions that may be shown during the unzipping process. Ensure that the check box, "Overwrite files without prompting" is ticked or first delete or rename the existing executable (renaming is recommended just in case the update is not successfull!). Note that the file should be unzipped into the folder containing your main ACES system files (usually it's C:\Program Files\Aces6). |
The latest version of ACES is revision V6.605 (when installed the executable 'Aces6.exe' will be dated 23/5/2008). |

| 2. Update the Continuous Beam Module (ACES-BEAM) You must have a valid licence of the ACES-BEAM module in order to download the latest version of the executable. (Click here to download the full demo version of both ACES and ACES-BEAM). Download the update file into a temporary folder (e.g., C:\Temp) then double-click it to install the new executable module into the appropriate directory. This will usually be the C:\Program Files\ACES6 folder. If you have ACES installed in a different directory, then ACES-BEAM must be unzipped into that folder (i.e, the folder that has the ACES6.EXE file in it). |
The latest version of ACES-BEAM is revision V1.1.10 (when installed the executable 'Aces-beam.exe' will be dated 3/8/2007). |

| 4. Download the ACES User Guide The ACES User Guide stored in this PDF file is quite large. On slower dial-up internet systems it may therefore take a little while to download. To download it you may have to right-click on 'View' then select 'Save target as..' |
Please note that this version of the User Guide is only valid for ACES Version 6.403. Some features found in earlier, or later, versions of the program you are running may not be fully described in this guide. To download the file right-click on 'View' and select 'Save target as..' |

| 5. Download the ACES-BEAM Library Files You must have a valid licence for the Continuous Beam Module (ACES-BEAM) in order to download this update. The ACES-BEAM module requires a number of application-specific Windows library files that may not be present on your PC at the time your machine is configured. This download installs those files and enables ACES-BEAM to run properly. This procedure will generally be necessary when connecting new client PCs to ACES-BEAM in a networked environment. It must be installed on every PC on which ACES-BEAM is to be run. After downloading the library setup file into a temporary folder, run the setup by double clicking the file. Install the system into the ACES folder containing your main program files (usually C:\Program Files\ACES6) or into any other convenient folder. |

| 7. Full Demo Version of the ACES Program A fully-featured evaluation version of the latest version of ACES can be downloaded free of charge and used for as long as you like! Please note that although all features in this evaluation copy of ACES are fully enabled the model size has been restricted to a maximum of 120 nodes (and only 2 spans for the Incremental Launching module). By default the ACES demo will install itself into the C:\Program Files\Aces6 folder. However, feel free to unzip it into any other folder that is more convenient for you (e.g. into /Temp or /Temp/Aces6 etc). After installing, double click aces6.exe to run the program. Contact AAS for an access key if you wish to purchase the program. |
| Instructions for existing clients: If you are not yet an ACES client go to the download section now. Otherwise, if you already have a valid ACES licence but wish to re-install the complete system onto the same PC please follow the instructions given below: 1. Rename the folder containing the previous version of the progam already on the PC (e.g., to ..\ACES6-OLD). 2. Download the evaluation copy and install it into a folder with the same name as the previous version before it was renamed (e.g. C:\Program Files\Aces6). You may have to right-click on 'View' then select 'Save target as..' to download it. 3. Copy the file labelled aces.vsn from the previous folder (..\ACES6-OLD) into the new ACES directory 4. If you do not have a valid aces.vsn file or if you have a stand-alone (protected) version contact AAS for an access key. |
